Christine Shaw - Architectural Plants (Collins Practical Gardener Series)
An attractively designed book, with a clear layout and helpful photographs of the plants featured. Includes many plants I wasn't familiar with, and told me some new things about plants I already grow.

Beth Chatto's Woodland Garden Beth Chatto's Woodland Garden: Shade-Loving Plants for Year-Round Interest
Beth Chatto's garden is massive, and mine is tiny, but I still find her books inspiring and helpful. I've recently discovered this one, which has been a great help as I'm thinking about changing some of the planting in Woodland Corner. I like her philosophy of choosing plants to suit a situation: 'plants are like people and do not take kindly to being thrust into any situation, any more than we can tolerate being pushed into any kind of job.'

Richard Mabey - Nature Cure
Don't let the rather drab cover of this book put you off. It is a fascinating account of the author's relearning how to appreciate the landscape, after a period of depression. Particularly recommended for anyone who loves the summer visit of the swifts, as the author writes beautifully about these amazing birds.
